After a disagreement over twitter, CNN anchor Piers Morgan invited Janet Mock back to discuss the problematic wording. Here’s the tweet below:
But while Morgan’s effort to bring Mock back to the show to discuss the situation is amendable, his reaction in the interview is anything but. Yes, Morgan’s wording may have been a misinformed mistake, but when he continues to ignore what Mock is saying during the interview, he shows his unwillingness to listen.
Instead of listening to Mock’s explanation, Morgan spends the interview defending himself. However, Mock gives a strong explanation of gender and her opinion regarding the transgender community, that is important to be aware of.
Here is the entire interview below:
“JANET MOCK is a writer who stepped onto the national stage in 2011 with a catalytic profile about her journey to womanhood in Marie Claire magazine. Since then, she’s authored the memoir, Redefining Realness: My Path to Womanhood, Identity, Love & So Much More, which will be published on February 4, 2014 by Atria Books/Simon & Schuster. After publicly proclaiming her identity as a trans woman, Janet focused her efforts on speaking about the struggles, triumphs and portrayals of girls and women like herself. In 2012, she launched #GirlsLikeUs a movement that encourages trans women to live visibly. She currently writes and speaks about her experience of living at the intersections of identities.”(Janet Mock Website)
