Stunning Nude Photo Series Challenges What It Means to Be ‘Attractive’ (NSFW)

Have you noticed the similarities between the way you pose in photographs and the sexy poses portrayed in media and advertisements? I sure have. Do you pull your shoulders back and smile with your eyes? Most likely. Do you exaggerate curves that you may or may not have? Take a look through your photos on Facebook and Instagram. And how many times do you even take pictures in order to get the perfect one (the one in which you look your most slender and attractive self)? At this point, you have lost track.

Gracie Hagen’s photo series, Illusions of the Body presents a juxtaposition of bodies in sexy poses and non-sexy poses “to tackle the supposed norms of what we think our bodies are supposed to look like”. Hagen takes the series to another level by presenting human bodies completely nude, save the few models with tattoos. The female-bodied models hug and accentuate their curves in the sexy photo, and collapse their torsos in the non-sexy counter-photo. Hagen’s website encourages viewers to “celebrate your shapes, sizes, and contortions your body can get itself into. The human body is a weird & beautiful thing.” Check out the Huffington Post article and some pictures from the series here!
